3rd Whitefish WAG Race

What is the WAG Park?

The City of Whitefish and WAG welcome you to Hugh Rogers WAG Park, named in honor of the beloved Whitefish veterinarian who died in a plane crash in April 2009.

g to over 32,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.

The park is free to the public, and welcomes all responsible users. It is owned and maintained by the City of Whitefish, with WAG acting in an advisory capacity. WAG will continue to raise funds and provide leadership for future improvements. All donations through WAG are tax-deductible.

More efficient management of dogs by the city.

All dogs using a dog park will be required to have a current license, either city or county, and a rabies tag. The animal control officer will be able to interact with dog owners on a regular basis. S/he will be able to answer the question, “Where can I take my dog?” There will be fewer problems with dogs off-leash in areas where it is not appropriate.

Promoting pet owner responsibility

As people gather and socialize at the park, peer pressure becomes a positive force to control and clean up after your animal. Training tips and good manners are exchanged. Reader boards within the park will provide information about licensing requirements, pet responsibility and dog-related services.

Providing all citizens a place to recreate with dogs.

A safe and legal space to play can enhance the experience for all dog owners. Many people appreciate a place to let their animals exercise off-leash, or simply to enjoy other peoples’ animals. Dog owners merit a place in the public park system for their activity.

A marketable asset for the city

Visitors want and need a place to exercise their animals while traveling. People buying homes and operating businesses want an environment conducive to responsible pet ownership.

Reducing pressure on outlying areas

As Whitefish expands, it becomes increasingly difficult to find suitable places for dogs to run off-leash. Driving long distances to safely exercise pets is expensive, environmentally unfriendly and often impractical. Home owners on the fringes have problems with parking and uncontrolled use. Wildlife is harassed and habitat damaged.

A well exercised dog is less likely to cause problems

The majority of dogs in a dog park seem to understand that this is neutral territory, and a place to play. They learn socialization skills. Dog owners who are inclined to let their dogs stay in a yard …and bark … are often inspired to use a near-by fenced park. Everyone benefits.

AniMeals will have a food bin for any animal food donations you can bring the day of the race!

The 2012 3rd Annual Whitefish Animal Hospital WAG Race is here.Come out on Saturday, May 19, 2011 and race to benefit the Hugh Rogers WAG Park. All proceeds will go to the park.  This is a fundraiser!!!

Age Divisions

will update soon

Children Participation

Children 10 and under race for free!  Unless your child is in a stroller, you’ll need to register them as well.  This way we can make sure everyone is off the course safely.  They’ll receive a timing chip and bib number.  If your child wants food and/or shirt, please do not register them for the 10 and under free divisions, but one of the regular divisions instead.

Dog Participation

Participants are encouraged to run or walk with your canine companion on a leash.  Because the 15k course will be USATF certified having a dog attached would disqualify you for any USATF records, but not locally.  Anyone who chooses to run with a dog will have results posted in separate divisions.
